«Fantasy, abandoned by reason, produces impossible monsters; united with it, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of marvels»
— Francisco de Goya
About me
Yulia Palishcheva was born in Taganrog into a family where music was part of everyday life. Her mother is a professional pianist and choral singer, and jazz and classical music were always present at home. In this environment, a musical ear, a sense of rhythm, and artistic taste developed naturally.

Creativity also runs through her family history. Her grandparents, Valentina and Vladimir Grachev—both Merited Sculptors of the Soviet Union—embodied a culture of high craftsmanship and demanding aesthetic standards. Her grandfather was a close friend of Elena Obraztsova and a direct descendant of the Grachev dynasty of jewelers from Saint Petersburg, official suppliers to the royal courts of Denmark and Sweden, as well as to the Russian Empire.

Yulia began studying music at the age of four and soon started winning prizes in competitions. In Taganrog, her initial musical direction was guided by her first teacher, Svetlana [surname to be added], who laid a foundation that was later strengthened through advanced studies in Saint Petersburg.

Yulia received her professional training in the class of Professor Larisa Andreevna Shevchenko, whose artistic vision proved decisive in shaping her profile. Shevchenko’s career is often cited as a rare example of artistic courage: already an established singer, she chose to rebuild her technique around the Italian bel canto tradition—reconsidering breath, register balance, and the culture of the word—and passed that discipline, stylistic rigor, and freedom on to her students.

A central pillar of Yulia’s ongoing artistic development is her work with Dale Fundling, an outstanding vocal coach and pianist, widely recognized for his command of vocal style and musical depth. Among his best-known students are the world-famous mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča and the world-famous tenor Piotr Beczała—artists whose careers represent the highest international standards of technique, style, and musical intelligence.

Yulia is a laureate and finalist of several competitions, including the Jean Sibelius Opera Competition, Star Rhapsody, Great Silk Road, and St. Petersburg in the Mirror of World Musical Culture, and she was also a finalist of the International B. T. Shtokolov Vocal Competition. These distinctions reflect the strength of her training, the clarity of her artistic direction, and a consistently professional approach focused on building a sustained operatic career.

Her stage profile is lyric coloratura soprano. Her repertoire moves naturally between bel canto, Mozart, French repertoire, and Russian opera, guided by stylistic authenticity, clarity of musical line, and emotionally truthful stage presence. In parallel with her operatic work, she has developed broad performance experience across diverse formats, including operatic and dramatic productions, numerous solo concerts, and appearances with both classical symphony orchestras and ensembles performing on traditional folk instruments.
